Despite no fans in attendance, All Elite Wrestling has been putting on weekly shows that have actually been solid throughout, giving fans a nice alternative to the WWE product. Double or Nothing was AEW’s first-ever pay-per-view back in May of 2019. The positive reviews on the show led them to announce a second installment of the PPV.

There are a lot of exciting matches announced on the card. Nine matches are scheduled for the card with one on the “Buy-In” pre-show. Three titles will be on the line as well as crowning the first-ever TNT Champion. On top of that, the traditional Casino Battle Royale will now be a Ladder match (showing similarity to WWE’s Money in the Bank)

Here are my predictions for AEW’s 2020 edition of Double or Nothing.

#1 contender match for the World Tag Team Championship – Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent) (pre-show)

Prediction: Best Friends win to be #1 contenders for the World Tag Team Championship

The sole pre-show match will be a #1 contender match for the company’s tag titles. It has been a while since we have seen Private Party on television unlike Best Friends, who have been on T.V. weekly with Orange Cassidy.

The tag division on AEW is stacked and I think that this will be a great match to start the show. My prediction is that Trent and Taylor win here given that they have been on T.V. a lot more.

MJF vs. Jungle Boy

Prediction: MJF wins

MJF came back after a “life-threatening” injury that kept him away for a few weeks and looks to get back to his winning ways on AEW. Jungle Boy has been mainly in the tag picture but it looks that AEW wants to push him a young rising singles star.

That being said, I have MJF winning here in dominant fashion. Jungle Boy can take the loss here.

Penelope Ford vs. Kris Statlander

Prediction: Kris Statlander wins

Ford replaces Britt Baker, who had to drop out of the match due to a leg injury. With Statlander being a part of the title picture not too long ago, I have her winning here.

Dustin Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears

Prediction: Shawn Spears wins

Spears and Rhodes brother, Cody, had a heated rivalry a few months back and looks to continue it with his brother. Rhodes has lost his past couple of matches while also being storyline injured in the process. Spears needs a direction as he seems to be lost in the shuffle on AEW. I have him winning here to get back to his winning ways.

Casino Ladder match for a World Championship match – Darby Allin vs. Colt Cabana vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Joey Janela vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Kip Sabian vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Luchasaurus vs. TBD

Prediction: Darby Allin wins to earn a World Championship match

Matches like this are hard to predict, so I will go with a process of elimination. Sky and Kazarian are a tag team so they might be out here and guys like Cabana, Sabian, Luchasaurus, and the newly added Janela (who replaced Rey Fenix due to injury) do not have as much booking behind them.

Cassidy is over with the fans and has a chance to at least win here to get a title shot but he would be my third choice. It comes down the Allin and the surprise entrant. Given Allin’s push for the past few months, I have him winning here.

Matt Hardy and The Elite (Adam Page, Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson) vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz) in a Stadium Stampede match

Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Prediction: Matt Hardy and The Elite win

This match looks crazy on paper with the name but I am all in on the Stadium Stampede match. The Inner Circle and The Elite have been feuding since AEW pretty much started and it looks like there is no slowing down here between the two factions.

Given that Hardy just debuted on AEW, giving him the win here makes the most sense and guys like Jericho can take a loss here in this multi-person match. Except for chaos, but a lot of fun.

Inaugural TNT Championship – Cody vs. Lance Archer in the tournament final

Prediction: Cody wins the inaugural TNT Championship

Despite being one of the guys behind AEW, Cody has yet to win any big matches on pay-per-view (outside of beating his brother at the first Double or Nothing event). During regular weekly shows, Cody has been dominant.

I have Cody winning the first ever TNT Champion here. The newly signed Archer has all the backing behind him to win here but the I believe Mike Tyson (who is presenting the new belt to the winner) will play a huge factor here, possibly costing Archer the match.

Women’s World Championship – Nyla Rose (c) vs. Hikaru Shida in a No Disqualification and No Countout match

Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Prediction: Nyla Rose retains the Women’s World Championship

Shida has been booked great so far in 2020, with her only loss this year came in a four-way match on January 1st (she did not get pinned in that match). As for Rose, she has been great as the heel champion in the women’s division.

The no DQ-Countout stipulation adds in Rose’s favor here so I thin Rose retains here to continue her reign.

World Championship – Jon Moxley (c) vs. Brodie Lee

Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Prediction: Brodie Lee wins the World Championship

Crazy to think this as I am generally not a fan of short title reigns. However, Lee (formerly Luke Harper in WWE) has been built as a strong heel for the past few weeks  (especially as being announced as the leader of The Dark Order).

A strong heel world champion might be something AEW needs right now. On top of that, a swerve here in making Lee the top champion after being released from WWE not too long ago can make things really interesting.

Just my fantasy booking idea but, in the end, this should be a good match regardless of the outcome. Moxley has been great as champion so nothing wrong with keeping the belt on him.

Overall

Double or Nothing looks to be an excellent pay-per-view from top to bottom. Unlike some of the WWE PPV’s, I am looking forward to watching every match here on the card. All the matches have stories behind it and fresh matchups (or some alternations) we have not seen yet. This should be a good one.
