Despite the coronavirus pandemic, WWE is still going strong. WrestleMania 36 had no fans and the same will happen for this year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Eight matches will take place on the card, with two on the pre-show. Four titles will be on the line on top of the two traditional Money in the Bank contracts.

Both MITB Ladder matches will have a twist this year. Both matches will go down simultaneously and instead of having it at the WWE Performance Center (where the past few weeks of shows have been), it will take place at the WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The match will begin on the ground floor of Titan Towers and battle all the way to the roof where the coveted briefcases will be waiting above a ring. If this has the same production as the Boneyard or Firefly Fun House match at ‘Mania 36, this should be a good one. Here are my predictions.

Jeff Hardy vs. Cesaro (pre-show)

Prediction: Jeff Hardy wins

We have seen weeks of video packages about the career of Hardy and with the amount of hype he is getting as of late, he wins with ease here. It’s a shame it was to at the expense of The Swiss Cyborg.

R-Truth vs. MVP (pre-show)

Prediction: R-Truth wins

Never thought I would be writing about MVP in a 2020 WWE match but here we are. This match really came out of nowhere and while there is an argument that MVP gets a win to start up his managerial role with the recent tag-team of Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink, but having R-Truth win and have Thorne and Vink attack post-match could be a bigger build here.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship – The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) vs. John Morrison and The Miz vs. The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler and Jaxson Ryder and Wesley Blake) vs. Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado)

Prediction: The New Day retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championship

Probably one of the hardest predictions out of all the matches on the card. Morrison and Miz just dropped the titles so I don’t think you flip it back to them and Forgotten Sons I feel need a lot more build to be champions. New Day just won the belts, keep it on them for now, and start building up another team to contend.

SmackDown Women’s Championship – Bayley (c) vs Tamina

Prediction: Bayley retains the SmackDown Women’s Championship

It’s nice for Tamina to finally get a title opportunity after her long tenure with the company. Really this is just a placeholder for now and we start to see the build of Sasha Banks and Bayley.

Universal Championship – Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt

Prediction: Braun Strowman retains the Universal Championship

A reminder here that we will see the Mr. Rodgers sweater-wearing version of Wyatt, not The Fiend. Wyatt is 1-0 in that persona but he was the champion at the time (beat The Miz in a non-title match at TLC 2019).

Having said that, Strowman retains here. He just won the title and I think having him drop it so soon hurts the credibility. Having The Monster Among Men retain here and have The Fiend go after him would make the most sense.

WWE Championship – Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins

Prediction: Drew McIntyre retains the WWE Championship

Personally, I did not think Rollins should have gotten a title opportunity here, given that he did lose to Kevin Owens at WM 36. That being said, I have the champion retaining here, similar to the previous match. Heel Rollins as the Monday Night Messiah is working perfectly but taking the title off McIntyre so soon after beating Brock Lesnar would not be a good call.

Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match – Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Nia Jax vs. Dana Brooke vs. Lacey Evans vs. Carmella

Credit: WWE.com

Prediction: Shayna Baszler wins the Women’s Money in the Bank contract

It is a process of elimination in this type of match. Jax winning would cause A TON of backlash, while Brooke and Carmella are not getting a huge push as of now. Evans is aligned with Tamina for a few weeks so she is kind of in the title picture to a degree. It really comes down to Asuka and Baszler but I am giving the edge to Baszler. While she lost at WrestleMania 36, she has still been build as a powerhouse in the division. Have her win and stalk both champions for the next few weeks (or months).

Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match – Daniel Bryan vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Aleister Black vs. King Corbin vs. Otis vs. AJ Styles

Credit: WWE.com

Prediction: Rey Mysterio wins the Men’s Money in the Bank contract

This one is a lot more complex than the female match because pretty much five of the six guys in this match have a legit case to win it here. My pick might be out there but why not have Mysterio win it, get his title run, and maybe set up a potential retirement match. Is it a crazy idea? Possibly but I said it on the new wrestling show I started up at JDF Sports (Four Corners w/ Fonz and Mike….check it out), so why not.

Overall

Much like WrestleMania 36, no fans will make this event weird. Credit to WWE for trying something new with the pre-taped, cinematic Money in the Bank Ladder matches. Outside of those matches, these title matches are pretty much predictable, given that most of these titles just changed hands.
