A little bit of a different blog post today. Simply put, I want to say thank you for checking out the Fonz De Falco personal blog throughout the year.
Back when I graduated, my goal was to become a sports writer and not going to lie, it was a struggle. Constant job rejections and no answers can get to you after a while and I was tired of waiting around. Back in 2018, I had an idea to make my own personal sports blog where I gave my thoughts and opinions on various topics in the sports world, both to work on my craft and get my name out there.
I ended up only writing a few posts between weeks and sometimes months because I was lost on what I actually wanted to do. This time last year I decided to step my game up and start fresh heading into 2019, deleting all my past articles form 2018. Now, 12 months later, I can say that I am proud to see how far this site has come.
From the regular sports articles to the wrestling pieces and the occasional video game articles, its been a fun ride.
But it is far from over. I plan to continue writing on here regularly and making sure that I will beincluding more content. Let’s take a look at the plans for the sections pertaining to the blog and discuss some future plans for the brand outside of my writing career.
Of course, the main part of this website is the sports section. You have heard me say time after time that the sports world is a HUGE part of my life. Football and basketball were the main topics I wrote about but I’d also like to shoutout to my buddy Conor “Sauce Boss” Robinson for contributing also with his Premier League series. On top of that, some of my buddies have joined in from time to time to talk about their teams in the NFL/NBA previews (check out their incredible work: Joseph Mitchell, Tom Schavetta, Josh Svetz) Here are some of my favorite articles that I wrote about (take a trip down memory lane and check these out).
- Seven Teams That SHOULD Trade for Antonio Brown (1/2/19)
- The Last High Schoolers: 2005 NBA Draft (2/28/19)
- Re-Drafting the First Round of the 2018 NFL Draft (4/23/19)

- Looking Back at the 2008 Running Back Class: From Worst to First (5/6/19)
- The Last Seattle SuperSonics: Where Are They Now? (6/6/19)
- Re-Drafting the 2009 NBA Draft: 10 Years Later (6/19/19)
- 10 Wide Receivers That Can Hit the 1,000 Yard Mark for the First Time (9/4/19)
- 10 Running Backs That Can Hit the 1,000 Yard Mark for the First Time (9/5/19)
- Where Will Cam Newton Play When the 2020 Season Kicks Off? (11/18/19)
- Ranking All the 2019/2020 NBA “City” Edition Uniforms from Worst to First (12/9/19)
The main topics I like to write about when it comes to sports are historic articles, opinionated pieces, and lists as you can see. That will be the same this year and I have a lot of new ideas that I am excited to write about.
Next to sports, I am a huge fan of professional wrestling. I grew up with WWE as the main promotion so all of my articles from this past year have been in relation to that. On top of making my predictions and reviewing all the WWE pay-per-views, I made a few lists in relation to some of the pay-per-views that were going on at the time. Here are a few of those articles.
- The State of the Universal Championship (1/5/19)
- 10 Best Royal Rumble Matches (1/22/19)
- 10 Best Elimination Chamber Matches (2/14/19)
- 10 Best WrestleMania Stage Designs (3/31/19)
- 10 Best WrestleMania Winning Percentages (4/3/19)
- 10 Worst WrestleMania Losing Percentages (4/4/19)
- My 10 Favorite WrestleMania Matches Ever (4/7/19)
- WrestleMania 35 Review (4/8/19)
- The 10 Best Superstars to Never Win Money in the Bank (5/10/19)
- Ranking All the Money in the Bank Matches: 22-12 (5/16/19)
- Ranking All the Money in the Bank Matches: 11-1 (5/17/19)
- Money in the Bank 2019 Review (5/21/19)
- Ranking the Modern-Era Cruiserweight Champions Under the WWE Banner (11/12/19)
- Survivor Series 2019 Review (11/25/19)
For the wrestling section, there is no doubt I’ll continue to write about my thoughts and opinions on the WWE product but this year I will also look to expand my knowledge on that. 2019 was a great year to be a wrestling fan, as we have seen a rise in a lot of other promotions outside of the WWE, like New Japan, All Elite, and National Wrestling Alliance just to name a few. Be on the lookout for those in addition to my traditional WWE PPV predictions and reviews.
I have been a video game nerd for as long as I can remember, from my first console the PlayStation 2 to my Xbox One. I only wrote two articles in the video game section throughout the year, which I will admit is a bit of a disappointment but the two I wrote were about the first ideas I wanted to talk about. My 15 favorite games are still on my list today and the Tony Hawk series is one of my favorite video game series of all time, so check those out.
- My 15 Favorite Video Games (2/9/19)
- Ranking All the Tony Hawk Games from Worst to First (3/28/19)
Much like the sports and wrestling side, the majority of my articles in this section will be lists or historic articles pertaining to this section. On top of that, I’ll be looking to review some upcoming games that will be coming out in the future as well as reviewing some occasional games that came out recently or even ones that came out years ago.
Other Article Ideas
The reason I started this blog was to give me an outlet to talk about the three topics above but much like this blog, I want to continue to expand my opinions on certain topics I find interesting. Some ideas I have is to talk about music (mainly hip-hop) since that is the main genre I listen to. On top of that, movies and T.V. shows are something I would like to start up. Not sure when but be on the lookout for those also.
The SlickBack KickBack Report w/ Fonz De Falco
One of my goals in 2019 was to start up my own podcast. I always wanted to start my own and after years of listening to some of my favorite podcasts, I knew it was the perfect time to start it up.
February 10, 2019, was the debut of The SlickBack KickBack Report w/ Fonz De Falco (shout out to my good friend Nick Richards for giving me the name idea). From the first episode to my most recently episode #51, I have grown so much more confident.
I’d like to give a special shoutout to Albert Donor. He was interested in joining in on the show and made an intro to my podcast as well as allowing me to have access to the LIU radio station where the podcast is recorded. Since episode three, he joined in as a producer where he keeps the podcast on track as well as giving his own insights on certain topics. He has been a great help in supporting the brand so I had to mention him.
Thank you to guests that have come on the show; Conor Robinson, Terik Lewis, Paul Stapleton, Devin Hutchison, Matt Monaco, Anthony Cavarretta, Mike DeSanto, Andy Burgos, Alec Walt, Sofia De Falco, Joe Mitchell, Ed Joseph, Harrison Quail, Nick Richards, and Alex Fernandez. You guys have been a big part of the podcast and I enjoyed the episodes we did together. Looking forward to having you guys on in the coming year.
I’m looking forward to future episodes of the show. No doubt one of my goals is to expand my guest lists to bring in their own perspective on certain topics. I also am planning on making the podcast on a video platform that will be posted on my YouTube channel. If you haven’t checked out the show and are a fan of sports, wrestling, gaming, and pretty much enjoy listening to people babble on about random topics, then you should subscribe and listen on wherever you get your podcasts. Here are some of the popular podcast apps you can find them on.
Fonz De Falco YouTube Channel
One of the last things I had in mind for 2019 was to start up a YouTube channel. I wanted to start one up a few years back but always had a slight fear of being on camera. I knew that I had to overcome that fear and on November 24, 2019, the Fonz De Falco channel was born.
It is a little different outside of my regular blog and podcast. The channel is more of a commentary channel, talking about funny things I have seen on the internet. I have two commentary videos so far which you can see here, talking about LinkedIn Statuses and people giving Google one-star reviews on famous New York City landmarks.
On top of that, I also tried my craft in vlogging where I vlogged my experience at Anime NYC.
I have had a great time in the shooting and editing these videos. What does the future of the channel hold? More commentary videos and skit ideas. On top of that, be on the lookout for some gaming videos that will be posted on Twitch as well. Twitch is another platform I want to be involved in, where people can tune in to be playing some video games live and if you can’t make it live, they’ll be posted on to YouTube as well.
2019 was a great year for me. I had three goals in mind and it is safe to say that I was able to accomplish those tasks. Obviously, that is only scratching the surface and I am just getting started. 2019 was the building platform and 2020 is only getting better.
Thank you for taking the time in reading this and seeing the journey. From reading an article to checking out a podcast episode or watching one of my videos. You have been a huge part of this. To 2020!!
The Brand is Strong!
