This is going to be on the most interesting weekends in WWE as there will be back-to-back network specials. NXT will be hosting its third WarGames TakeOver Saturday night while also joining the main roster in their Survivor Series clash. If there was a time to start up that WWE Network subscription, it would be now.
My Survivor Series predictions will go up Sunday morning, so let’s stick with the yellow brand for now. As stated earlier, this will be the third WarGames TakeOver NXT will have, with the main stipulation being a WarGame match, where two rings will be next to each other where a steel cage will be surrounding it. On top of that, two wrestlers start in the ring, with a new superstar entering every five minutes are so.
Right now, there are only four matches scheduled on the main card (one for the pre-show), including two WarGames match (with a first-time all-women’s edition). No titles will be on the line but we will see a match where the winner will earn a title shot the following night at Survivor Series.
Here are my predictions for NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs. Angel Garza (pre-show)
Prediction: Angel Garza wins
A match that was added after SmackDown went off the air, will two of NXT’s recent signees in Scott and Garza. I for one am I a huge fan of both guys and I am excited to see how they’ll perform in their first TakeOver:
As much as I want Swerve Scott to win, I think Garza will pull out the victory here. He has been featured a little more on NXT T.V. and is currently in a feud with Lio Rush for the Cruiserweight Championship. Nonetheless, this is a great way to kick off the show.
Matt Riddle vs. Finn Bálor
Prediction: Finn Bálor wins
Bálor recently returned to NXT and has now established himself as a heel, something we saw during his days in Japan but not when he was on Raw or SmackDown. He made his mark in NXT and will look to jumpstart his second run here with a victory over Riddle. Riddle will no doubt look good here in a loss but you don’t have Bálor lose this early in his career revival.
#1 contender match for the NXT Championship at Survivor Series – Pete Dunne vs. Killian Dain vs. Damian Preist
Prediction: Pete Dunne wins to be #1 contender for the NXT Championship
As much as I like Preist and I think he’ll be a future champion in WWE down the line, I think Dunne deserves the win here. The former two-year United Kingdom Champion has a bright future in WWE and I think having him win here and facing Adam Cole on a high-level pay-per-view is perfect here. No doubt that this will be a great match.
Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Mia Yim vs. Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, and Kay Lee Ray in a WarGames match
Prediction: Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Mia Yim win
The first-ever Women’s WarGames match will be a good one no doubt if the past few weeks have been anything to show for. The buildup has been great here and I see Ripley being next in line to challenge Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. Baszler doesn’t need to get pinned here but having Ripley pin someone else to challenge for the title would work here.
Expect a lot of chaos, weapons, and A LOT of high spots.
The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish) vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, and TBD in a WarGames match
Prediction: The Undisputed Era win
Much like the women’s match, expect the men’s WarGames match to be just as insane. The buildup here has been great also, with guys like Lee and Dijakovic mending their differences and teaming up with Ciampa to take on of the best factions in WWE today. U.E. has done a great job as they hold onto all the titles and the momentum doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon. With U.E. being more of an established team, I have them winning here but this should be a good one. I am definitely interested to see how Lee does here as well as seeing who the 4th member will be.
WarGames 2017 was amazing, WarGames 2018 was amazing. Expect the same to be said for 2019. A women’s WarGames match is much deserved given how well the female superstars have been in recent years. Both matches will be insane and the other two matches will be just as good. This is a great way to kick off the Survivor Series weekend!
